“In the next 5-10 years, I’d love to see healthcare systems really make progress when it comes to equity, not just talk about it – it needs to be integrated into every part of healthcare. The next generation of healthcare providers need to understand the full impact of factors like race, ethnicity and socioeconomic status on health. This topic wasn’t emphasized enough in the past and it is important that medical education continues to evolve this way.

On top of that, healthcare needs stronger patient advocacy and better communication. Families shouldn’t feel invisible or dismissed like I did when my grandmother passed away. We need systems in place that support families, keep them informed, and make sure they feel heard every step of the way.”
