As we continue to celebrate Women’s History Month and acknowledge leaders who have made an impact and continue to do so in their respective fields, Healthcare Leaders of New York is proud to spotlight Helen Arteaga Landaverde for all her contributions to healthcare and beyond. She is the first woman of color and Latina to lead the executive team at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, guiding the hospital through COVID-19 testing, vaccination programs, and post-pandemic recovery. Helen has collaborated with officials to secure funding for vital infrastructure projects and has received numerous awards, including the Community Impact, Humanitarian, and City of New York American Dreamer awards. She was recognized in City and State’s Queen Power 100, named one of Crain’s New York Business’s Notable Hispanic Leaders and Executives, a Crain’s Notable Leader in Healthcare, and a Crain’s Women of Influence Finalist. In March 2024, she received an award from NYS Governor Kathy Hochul for her contributions to the Latina Mentoring initiative and the healthcare sector. Helen continues to redefine what it means to be a healthcare leader serving their community. Plaza del Sol Family Health Center, which was founded and opened by Helen in 2009 to honor her father, has provided care to more than 30,000 patients regardless of their financial circumstances since last year. We are proud to highlight leaders making a difference both in the field of healthcare and their communities!
