Chapter President-Elect

The Chapter President-Elect partners closely with the Chapter President to help lead Healthcare Leaders of New York (HLNY) and ensure a seamless transition into the presidency. During this year of service, the President-Elect gains firsthand experience with the strategic, operational, and governance responsibilities of leading the chapter while supporting the Board of Directors, committee leadership, and chapter initiatives.

The President-Elect serves as a key ambassador for HLNY, representing the chapter throughout the healthcare community, fostering member engagement, and helping advance the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare to assume the office of Chapter President at the conclusion of the President’s term, or sooner if required under the chapter bylaws.
  • Partner closely with the Chapter President to support strategic initiatives, governance, and chapter operations.
  • Help lead the annual strategic planning retreat and development of the chapter’s annual work plan and budget.
  • Serve as a voting member of the Board of Directors and provide guidance and support to committees and chapter leaders.
  • Orient newly elected Board members and help prepare the incoming President-Elect for a successful leadership transition.
  • Represent HLNY and ACHE at professional meetings, chapter events, and community functions.
  • Promote membership growth, support fundraising and sponsorship efforts, and strengthen relationships with members and partners.
  • Help ensure HLNY fulfills its annual chapter obligations, including educational and networking programming.
  • Provide leadership and support to committee chairs, including direct oversight of assigned committees.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership experience and commitment to HLNY.
  • At least one year of HLNY elected Board service. Prior ACHE chapter board experience may be considered, when applicable. Candidates without prior elected Board service should have significant chapter leadership experience, such as serving as a Committee Chair for up to two years.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Member in good standing with HLNY for at least one year.

Term of Office

  • Three-year leadership progression consisting of 1-year as President-Elect, 1-year as Chapter President, and 1-year as Immediate Past President.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 20 or more hours per month.
  • Attend the ACHE Chapter Leaders Conference and, when possible, the ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership.
  • Regular attendance at Executive Board and Board of Directors meetings.
  • Active participation in the chapter’s signature programs and events, including the Annual Gala & Awards Ceremony, Mini-Congress, Better Together, Cocktails with the Chiefs, Past Presidents Boat Cruise, Holiday Party, and other key chapter activities.

Maintain an active presence in supporting committee chairs, strategic initiatives, and chapter leadership throughout the year.
