In honor of Black History Month, Healthcare Leaders of New York (HLNY) is proud to highlight Stephen E. Grayson, MHA, MA from NYU Langone Health and he states:
“In the next 5 to 10 years, I hope to see healthcare systems make significant progress toward achieving equity by tackling disparities in access, quality, and outcomes. This involves enhancing diversity within the healthcare workforce, promoting culturally competent care, and eliminating biases in treatment decisions.
Healthcare organizations should also invest in more community-based programs that address social determinants of health, ensuring that aspects like housing, nutrition, and economic stability are considered in patient care. Furthermore, increasing transparency in healthcare data—particularly in tracking and addressing racial disparities in outcomes—will be crucial for fostering accountability and driving systemic change.
Ultimately, achieving equity in healthcare means guaranteeing that every patient, regardless of their background, receives high-quality, patient-centered care. By prioritizing these initiatives, we can create a system that genuinely serves all communities fairly and effectively.”
Thank you, Stephen, for your commitment to empowering others and shaping the future of healthcare.
