New York, September 19, 2023 / The Healthcare Leaders of New York (HLNY) announced Mount Sinai Health System as their 2023 Diversity Leader Award recipient. The award will be presented at HLNY’s Mini Congress held on October 5, 2023 in NYC. The award will be presented prior to the Mini Congress panel discussion where leading healthcare executives directly address how organizations are tackling equity, diversity, access, and trust in healthcare.
Each year, HLNY awards an organization who has proven a commitment to eliminate health care disparities and increase diversity in governance and leadership. These organizations have taken the national #123 for Equity Pledge and have prioritized advancing health equity for all, as well as expanding leadership opportunities for ethnic minorities in health management. This year’s awardee has not only taken the pledge but has also taken action within their institution implementing strategies and initiatives that are already making a meaningful difference. Initiatives such as:
- Establishing an Executive Diversity Leadership Board, chaired by the CEO with executive and senior leadership members and trustees, to drive equitable practices to enhance quality and outcomes centering on marginalized and oppressed groups;
- Creating a system-wide data analytics team to establish best practices for collecting REaL (race, ethnicity, and language) patient data to identify and address disparities, and subsequently, a Health Equity Data Assessment Committee to serve as the central repository for tracking equity-related projects, metrics, and analytics; and
- Launching the Road Map for Action to Address Racism, which consists of 11 discrete strategies with specific interventions meant to facilitate change across the health system.
These are just a few of the amazing efforts Mount Sinai Health System has undertaken. You can learn more about their initiatives and resources at https://www.mountsinai.org/about/diversity.
